Report of coffee industry in January 2020: Exports decrease
In 2019, exports of processed coffee increased, while exports of other types of coffee decreased. Vietnam's coffee market share in China's total imports in the first 11 months of 2019 decreased compared to the same period in 2018.
In January 2020, the price of Robusta and Arabica coffee delivered by the term decreased compared to December 2019. On the London exchange, on 31/01/2020, the price of Robusta coffee delivered in March 2020 decreased by 5.2% compared to December 31, 2019, to 1,304 USD / ton; May 2020 delivery term was trading at 1,315 USD / ton, down 5.5% compared to December 31, 2019.
On the New York Stock Exchange, on January 31, 2020 the price of Arabica coffee delivered in March 2020 was 101.5 Uscent / lb, down 23.2% compared to December 31, 2019; May 2020 term delivery decreased by 22.9% compared to December 31, 2019, to 103.65 Uscent / lb.
World coffee prices fell due to oversupply pressure and the impact of the Corona flu in China, which made global coffee transactions gloomy. The market continues to forecast Brazilian coffee production for the 2020 crop. The weather in Brazil is very favorable for the Robusta coffee harvest that will start in April 2020 and Arabica coffee in July 2020.
After the Lunar New Year holidays, coffee transactions in the domestic market are quite bleak. People do not sell coffee at low prices today but are waiting to increase prices.
According to estimates, coffee exports in January 2020 reached 140 thousand tons, worth US $ 245 million, down 25.6% in volume and down 25.2% in value compared to December 2019, down 30.6 % in volume and down 30.3% in value compared to January 2019.
Coffee exports in January 2020 decreased sharply compared to December 2019 and compared to January 2019 due to the Lunar New Year holidays. The average export price of coffee in January 2020 reached 1,751 USD / ton, up 0.6% compared to December 2019 and up 0.4% compared to January 2019.
